Grand Global Challenge. Educational card game 'That's Why!'

March 2017 - July 2017

Eindhoven

Collaboration between Fontys and Singularity University

Projects.

This was the last and biggest project during the Minor 'From Idea to Product with 3D Printing'. The project started off with a presentation given by Michael J. Dawkins about the 12 Grand Global Challenges.

At the start of the project we picks out the 3 out of 12 most interesting subjects and began to do research of each problem in 3 duo's. The next week we chose for the GGC: Education. We started to dive into this global challenge and tried to narrow down the subject. We focused on the 1st world countries and find some interesting problems. The challenge or problem we wanted to solve was the decrease of motivation of Dutch students in secondary schools. We found by interviewing professionals, doing research and taking a survey that the main reason was that the student don't know WHY they learn something.

From this point we started brainstorming about a product or service that could help the student WHY they are learning those subjects. We went for the educational card game. The game is build up in 4 groups of cards. The professions, subject cards, math related subject card (can be extended to every subject) and communication skill card. The groups of students need to collect the right card, so they can substantiate the profession. The cards can be earned by completing the exercises (transferred to website by QR-code) that are bounded to the card. It is necessary that the groups collect the right cards because each group has to guess someone else's profession. (profession is secret for the other groups) The group which guesses the most professions and the group which profession is guessed the most will win.
